Mechanical Engineer, Oxfordshire, UK
Booker Tate, owned by Bosch Projects, is a leading international agricultural production and processing company that supports clients to bring new agricultural and engineering projects to realisation, and to achieve technical performance improvements within existing projects in an environmentally, socially and economically sustainable manner.
Technical support to clients and projects, mainly in the sugar industry, is provided from our UK headquarters in Thame, Oxfordshire and in partnership with our parent company headquarters in Durban, South Africa. We are now looking to recruit a well-qualified Mechanical Engineer to be based in Thame, Oxfordshire, to complement a high calibre team.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
The portfolio of work attached to this position will be diverse and includes trouble-shooting day-to-day engineering operating problems and undertaking regular site visits to improve performance of Booker Tate’s clients. Assessing and guiding expansion schemes, conducting feasibility studies/due diligence investigations and project management of new projects will also form a major part of the role. Preparing proposals, generating contracts and responding to tenders will be required in order to secure new business. In this role the incumbent will be working with business and technical managers in Thame and South Africa and with technical and general managers overseas, both national and expatriate. A good proportion of the time (up to 100 days per annum) will be spent on overseas visits of varying duration.
Skills, Qualifications and Experience
We seek professionally qualified candidates with post-graduate sugar industry experience and a minimum of 3 years in engineering roles, including time spent in developing countries and at more than one location.
Candidates must hold professional registration or membership of relevant recognised professional engineering institutions, or have qualifications and experience that qualifies them for such membership. They will be encouraged to pursue membership or registration if they do not already hold it.
Applicants should be computer literate with experience of MS Office and project planning/scheduling and CAD software packages. Candidates should have a broad knowledge of business principles and budget control. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential as report writing and presenting to all levels are key outputs. Fluency in English is required and an aptitude for languages, especially Spanish or Portuguese, would be advantageous.
